Fall at its Finest

I got the chance to have a little taste of home this weekend by participating in a cross country relay race from Omaha to Lincoln. It was really fun running down the rural roads as combines were cutting beans and hunters were looking for turkeys (the REAL kind, not the running kind ... it was opening weekend). It certainly got me excited for the party in a couple of weeks.

Here's a photo story on the relay, in case you are curious. http://media.journalstar.com/comments/?mid=M48f1c61776b2b

See you in a couple weeks!

That looked like a lot of fun. Did you run the entire 80 some ?? Are you anywhere in the video-- I couldn't pick you out--

Looked like you had better weather there than here. It was kind of rainy all day.

Our team of seven people ran the entire 86-mile route. The race organizers had mapped out 24 exchange points, where one teammate would hand off to another teammate. Then, the rest of the team loaded into a van to meet the runner at the next exchange, where someone else took over. Each of us ran anywhere from 12 to 14 miles total, broken up into three or four increments.

And no, we aren't in the video. Guess we weren't photogenic enough! So, we had to take our own pictures. Our team logo was a big question mark, which turned out to be rather prophetic when I got lost on the last leg of the race. Four other runners followed me....when I realized I had strayed off course, I turned around, and then told them they should never, ever follow a person with a large question mark on their back. I thought it was funny, but they didn't seem to be too amused.

The weather was actually kind of hot and windy, but I'd take that over today, which was really cold and rainy!
