Ice Capades -- Nebraska-style!

So last weekend we took to the ice as there is open skating for a couple hours at the hockey rink where the Lincoln Stars play. I hadn't been skating since I was a kid 30-some years ago and Bobbie, I'm told, skated a little more but not for years either. I'm happy to report neither of us fell! I can't say the same for our aspiring hockey player, though. But he was a trooper -- his little legs just weren't quite strong enough to hold him up real well, but he got up each time and never complained. He did start catching on after a few laps. We'll have to go again -- it was great fun!

Two minutes for fighting!

Oh boy, does that look like fun. I spent lots of my younger days skating around on that big lake that's on the corner you turn on to go to Uncle Jim's. My dad bought all of us skates including himself. I always thought it felt like flying. (the only other thing that comes close it letting Bunny go as fast as she wants).

We used to build a bonfire sometimes and roast weiners and marshmellows. I suppose they frown on that at the rink, huh??

Ah well, enough recollections. Thanks for sharing---- Mom

It was a lot of fun, Sharon. There is an outdoor rink between here and Omaha (about a 20-mile drive). We'll have to check it out sometime. I think it'd be even more fun to skate outdoors.

We used to skate outside all the time back home in Fairmont. We had 3 rinks they flooded ever year with warming houses. Actually, my girlfriends and I would go to check out the boys. It was great fun. Boy Kev you just took me back in time too. It's so much fun and what great pics.

It brought back good memories for me, too. Eddie's pond wasn't nearly as smooth as the rink, but at least I only had to deal with a couple brothers, a sister, and a couple of Buchholz's kids.

Any chance our old skates are still lying around in a closet somewhere on the farm? That would be too fun!

I think I recall one Christmas when Grandpa Sip skated for a bit on Merkwan's pond with us. Do you remember that, Mom?

Anyway, Kade wants to go again, so I think we'll have to do it!

you are right, Bobbie- Grandpa put on skates and about gave Uncle Jim a heart attack. Actually we were all hoping he didn't break a hip. However he did pretty well for his age (70-80ish??)

Yes, the skates, at least some of them are still upstairs in the closet off your old room. Don't know if they are still useable or not. Maybe if I put on enough padding, I could try it again??

By the way, we went to Marley and I last night. It was good, but the book was better.

Looks like a lot of fun. Isabella has been asking to go ice skating. I was thinking we may try it out next weekend.
